Please join us in welcoming three new Directors to the ISMP Canada Board of Directors!

We are delighted to announce the appointment of:

Bupe Chibwata-Katebe, PMP, Prosci Change Practitioner, MCPM, PCP-CPA, who brings extensive expertise in healthcare, financial governance, strategic leadership, and system transformation.

Rowan Sarty, BSc(Pharm), a pharmacist and digital health leader whose experience spans community pharmacy, health data governance, and digital health solutions in Nova Scotia.

Catherine Wood, MBA, MISt., ICD.D, an experienced board and governance leader with a strong background in healthcare sector volunteerism, organizational growth, technology, and governance.

Their diverse expertise and shared commitment to improving healthcare systems will strengthen ISMP Canada as we continue advancing medication safety and supporting safer care for Canadians. We look forward to the leadership, insight, and innovation they will bring to our Board.

*2026 UPDATE* Medication Safety Self-Assessment for Hospital

The Medication Safety Self-Assessment® for Hospital (MSSA-Hospital) has been updated to include:

• Learning from medication incidents reported to the Canadian Medication Incident Reporting and Prevention System (CMIRPS)
• New and emerging safety trends (particularly the importance of supporting technology)
• Streamlined content for more efficient assessment
• Alignment with the CAN/HSO 3001:2026 Medication Management.

ISMP Canada Founding Member Dr. Beverley Orser Appointed Officer of the Order of Canada

Beverley A. Orser, MD, PhD, FRCPC, FRSC, FCAHS, a Founding Member of the Institute for Safe Medication Practices Canada (ISMP Canada), Professor and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine at the University of Toronto's Temerty Faculty of Medicine, and a practicing anesthesiologist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. The appointment was announced on June 26, 2026, by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Louise Arbour, Governor General of Canada.

New Canadian Medication Management Standard:
Developed with Input from ISMP Canada

Evidence-informed standards support health care organizations and providers to address opportunities for improvement in safety and quality throughout the medication life cycle, from procurement to disposal. In Canada, an example of standards for accreditation of health organizations is the Health Standards Organization (HSO) Medication Management standard (CAN/HSO 3001), developed with the involvement of patients, caregivers, and experts, including representation from ISMP Canada.
